Conversations with the Autistic Community

Graphic illustration.

Storytelling by Lisa Callaghan and Graham Joe Ogilvie in collaboration with individuals from the autistic community in Glasgow.

Artwork Big Map Alt1 (1)

This storytelling piece is accompanied by a context document. You can engage with the context document as a word document .

An alternative text (image description) word document is available for the graphic illustration.

This journey map was created as a visual way to display the important parts of conversations with members of the Autistic community. These conversations mainly surrounded what they saw as the barriers to navigating through parts of their lives and what they thought helped them cope.

The storytellers have tried to capture the barriers in red and what helped overcome some of these in green.

To provide some context the individuals involved were diagnosed at ages ranging from their teenage years right into adulthood, all initially presenting with poor mental health.  None of them identify with having any learning disabilities.  The storytellers felt this is a section of the Autistic community that is largely ignored by funders.
